It is relatively easy to find out what the critics have to say about diets with low carbs, but that still should be countered with the advantages to these diets.

Admittedly, most people who try to eat foods with low carbs only are usually trying only to lose weight, with health being an afterthought at best.  A low carb diet has been shown to produce more rapid weight loss than say a low fat diet, but this also seems to equal out after about 6 months.  Another advantage to a diet with low carbs is that blood glucose levels tend to be more stable and this reduces hunger.  A low carb diet also makes it easier to lose weight because of the extra burning of fat which raises metabolic rate.

There are a also a fair amount of benefits to your health that come with a low carb diet. Studies have shown that lowering your carb intake improves cholesterol levels and lowers your triglycerides.  Of course you have to keep your saturated fat consumption to a minimum, but if this is done you can therefore reduce your risk of heart disease.

It is important to find out as much as you can about a diet before you commit yourself to it.  And that means both the pros and the cons.  Diets that work for some people may not be the best choice for another, as all of our bodies differ.
