Low Carbohydrate

The low carbohydrate label
There are a lot of people buying up many of the processed products that are labeled as low carbohydrate food. But, what many of us tend to forget is that these labels are made to sell products, period. Many of these products are using sweeteners that do in fact have an effect on the system and can add to total carb level of the product. Most of the items labeled as low carbohydrate contain sugar alcohols like sorbitol, xylitol, and manitol. And none of these are very good for you either.

The biggest problem with these sugar alcohols is that they are not really meant to be eaten in large quantities. Because they are not digested in the same way that sugar is they can lead to digestive disorders and many people have experienced diarrhea, flatulence, and stomach cramps. Every sugar ingredient has some kind of effect on the body.

Overeating of low carbohydrate foods
It seems as though a great many of us who are on a low carbohydrate diet are eating mainly processed food in large quantities. We are filling up on things like low carbohydrate bars, or mixes and drinks when what we should be doing to get the best results from a low carbohydrate diet is consuming naturally low carb foods like whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. And for those of us with a sweet tooth, there is a natural sweetener called stevia that does not bother the stomach.

Eating more of the unprocessed foods also has another important benefit to the serious dieter. When you are eating things that you prepare yourself, you have a much better idea about what in really going into your body. Product labels cannot be depended upon to be accurate descriptions of what is inside the product.
