Carbohydrate

Like many habits (drugs, alcohol, gambling) food can be an addiction. Some people eat just because. It is hard for them to turn down the temptation of food, practically impossible. Just like a gambler who can't resist the black jack table, some eaters can't resist their favorite food. Some have cravings for chocolate, junk food and believe it or not, even health food. Some people are so obsessed with healthy eating that it has become an unhealthy habit. There is even a sect of people who are not just hooked on eating, but they are hooked on carbohydrate eating. It's called carbohydrate addiction.

Carbohydrate Addiction -- Carbohydrateaddiction is defined as an overwhelming hunger or desire for foods rich in carbohydrates. A driving need for junk food, sweets, starches and snacks. What are carbohydrate rich foods? Foods like breads, bagels, cake, soda, alcohol, etc.

Approximately three-quarters of overweight people -- and even "normal-sized" people -- are addicted to some sort of carbohydrate rich food or product. Hardly anyone -- including doctors -- realize that overeating may be caused by carbohydrate craving. In fact, most times it is misdiagnosed or totally overlooked. What makes people crave foods rich in carbohydrates? It is usually caused by a chemical imbalance; a release of too much insulin when carbohydrate rich foods are eaten, thus creating the craving. It's a vicious cycle. You eat to satisfy the need. But the more you eat, the more you want to eat.

There are many tests you can take to see if you or someone you know is carbohydrate addicted. There really isn't a cure for carbohydrate addicted people. The most that they can do at this time is watch their diet and monitor what they eat. When it comes to diet and eating, you always have to watch what you eat and the quantities of what types of food you eat.
